My late spring trip to Thailand taught me about hope, love and faith. My sister, Grace, who helped start our business with beautiful jewelry and accessory designs, gave premature birth to twin boys. Born at seven months, the boys were 1.9 and 2.2 lbs, requiring immediate intensive care. When the joy of birth is mixed with fear for the babies’ survival, medical care must be supplemented with hope, love and faith. Our family gathered around the nurses and doctors, giving our most earnest blessings to the babies. Thanks to God and the good efforts of Thai hospitals, the boys are doing well and growing. From this experience, Sassy Thai features Hope, Love & Faith t-shirts for the 2007 holiday season. The t-shirts, made from black cotton have Thai characters on the front, with a translation in English on the back. In gratitude for my nephews’ recovery, Sassy Thai will donate all profits from the t-shirts to a fund benefiting Srirah Hospital NICU unit and Christian Foundation for the Blind in Thailand and Respite Care of San Antonio.

Sassy Thai continues to add new materials to our layered and embellished garments, including – new for Fall – fabrics in tiger and leopard patterns and, most exciting to many of our customers, an embossed crocodile leatherette.

The crocodile leatherette comes in a jacket with brown denim pants that feature the crocodile pattern as an appliqué hand-crafted in our characteristically elaborate Thai patterns.

The tiger and leopard patterns are available in sleek modern jackets and integrated as decoration on black jeans.


In response to many, many customer requests, Sassy Thai has added many items in fabrics other than denim. You can use our silk, lace, chiffon, velvet and tapestry jackets as tops for our famous jeans – embellished or the perfect fit of plain Sassy Thai jeans.

We have long jackets in brown, black and deep red with a woven fabric base and intricate embroidery and appliqué in subtle complementary colors. We also offer a lace jacket, both with full sleeves and sleeveless with a lovely, sleek presence. And then Sassy Thai gets into the most elegant parties of the season in our velvety black jacket, embroidered with black beads and a scattering of sparkling rhinestones.

Of course, Sassy Thai never loses its floral themes. Flowers in black, silver and gold bloom from fabric cord, tapestries, lace, appliqué and paint accented with rhinestones and crystals. The Thai ecology is blessed with lovely intertwining of ivy, stems, leaves and flowers that define beauty as we know it.

Sassy Thai has been working with beauty queens lately. Molly Hazlett, Miss Texas 2007, will be at the Sassy Thai booth at the Dallas Market Center Showroom 14210 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday, August 19. Callie Thompson, Miss Teen Texas. Callie will wear a white, orange and green Sassy outfit (part of our Spring 2008 design scheme) to an upcoming pageant in Florida.


We have a lot of ideas in the works for Spring, with new samples arriving in our San Antonio offices every day. We’re looking forward with fun/cool tank tops, party dresses with laces, multi-colored printed jackets and Batik Silk tops, linen and silk pants and, of course, the most unique jeans in the business.


In addition to Cary Lowe, our able and famous West Coast rep, Sassy Thai personnel will attend a couple of apparel marts in August. Lori Spatafore will be in Dallas (showroom 14210) August 19 – 22, and Adina Lyssy and I will be at the Las Vegas mart (Booth 128 – 136) August 27 – 30. Sassy Thai will also have a presence in Atlanta (showroom 9W123), represented by Rick & Sarah Miller. There are a lot of beautiful things to see at the apparel marts, but none (in our humble opinion) as fun and elegant as Sassy Thai!
